Bloomingdale’s, the legendary American luxury department store, is a name synonymous with style, elegance, and innovation. In the Middle East, Al Tayer Group—a leading luxury retailer—has brought Bloomingdale’s to discerning customers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain.
To meet the demands of today’s connected luxury shopper, Al Tayer envisioned a world-class digital experience: a premium eCommerce destination that reflects Bloomingdale’s heritage while embracing the Middle East’s unique retail landscape.
01. The Challenge
Launching Bloomingdale’s online presence in the Middle East was not a simple eCommerce project — it was the creation of a luxury digital ecosystem that had to balance global brand excellence with regional nuances.
Al Tayer’s vision was bold: a platform that would serve five distinct markets — UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain — each with its own currencies, taxation rules, customer behaviors, and delivery infrastructures. The platform also needed to provide a luxury-first shopping experience that matched the prestige of Bloomingdale’s physical stores.
The challenges were multifaceted:
Luxury brand fidelity: The digital experience had to feel as premium as walking into Bloomingdale’s flagship, where every detail matters. Design, performance, and storytelling needed to align seamlessly with Bloomingdale’s international standards.
Localization at scale: Supporting Arabic (RTL) and English equally, implementing localized pricing, real-time stock availability, and tailored promotions for each market.
Complex payments landscape: Customers in the GCC expect a wide variety of payment options — from global solutions like Apple Pay, PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard to regional favorites like Mada, Tabby, Tamara, and even Cash on Delivery. The platform had to allow multi-payment in a single order, a feature rarely implemented at this scale.
Operations and fulfillment: The platform needed to integrate with Al Tayer’s custom Order Management System (OMS) for real-time inventory checks, and support delivery preferences such as scheduled delivery slots, same-day delivery, express shipping, and in-store pickup.
Omnichannel customer experience: Beyond transactions, the project demanded loyalty programs, abandoned cart recovery, gift registries, e-gift cards, wishlists, and product reviews — all while ensuring seamless data flows between Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Salesforce Service Cloud, and downstream systems like CRM, RMS, and Marketing Cloud.
Personalization and engagement: Bloomingdale’s customers expect curated experiences. The challenge was to deliver personalized content and product recommendations powered by Dynamic Yield, while integrating Salesforce Marketing Cloud for customer journeys, triggered campaigns, and abandoned cart emails.
In short, the challenge was to create a next-generation luxury commerce experience — one that would not only delight customers today but also provide a scalable foundation for future growth across new markets and channels.
02. The Solution
To bring Bloomingdale’s digital vision to life, our team partnered closely with Al Tayer to design and implement a comprehensive Salesforce-powered ecosystem, combining Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC) for eCommerce, Salesforce Service Cloud for customer care, and Salesforce Marketing Cloud for personalized engagement.
Building the Core Commerce Experience
We implemented Salesforce Commerce Cloud as the backbone of the platform, ensuring a luxury-first shopping experience that was fast, responsive, and scalable across five GCC markets. Each site was configured for English and Arabic (RTL), with market-specific pricing, taxation, promotions, and inventory availability. A Progressive Web App (PWA)-ready frontend ensured customers had a seamless, mobile-first shopping journey.
Real-Time Operations & OMS Integration
A critical part of the solution was integrating with Al Tayer’s custom-built Order Management System (OMS). This enabled:
Real-time availability checks for products across multiple warehouses.
Inventory synchronization across stores and digital channels.
Smart allocation of orders to optimize fulfillment.
Support for advanced fulfillment methods, including scheduled delivery slots, same-day delivery, and in-store pickup.
Payments Without Boundaries
The GCC’s payments landscape is diverse, and we ensured the platform could support every customer preference:
Checkout.com as the primary PSP (Payment Service Provider).
Global wallets like Apple Pay and PayPal.
Regional providers like Mada, Tabby, and Tamara for installment and buy-now-pay-later options.
Cash on Delivery (COD) for customers preferring traditional methods.
An advanced capability to support multi-payment in a single order — blending cards, wallets, and COD in one seamless transaction.
Personalized Marketing & Engagement
To create a luxury digital journey, personalization was at the core:
Salesforce Marketing Cloud integration for automated campaigns, including abandoned cart journeys, product retargeting, and lifecycle campaigns.
Dynamic Yield integration to provide AI-driven product recommendations, content personalization, and A/B testing across the site.
Loyalty program implementation, connecting purchase history, rewards, and personalized incentives directly to the customer account.
Enhancing the Customer Experience
Luxury shopping is about more than buying — it’s about experiences. We delivered:
Gift Registry & eGift Cards, empowering customers to create and share curated lists for occasions.
Wishlist functionality synced across devices and customer accounts.
Ratings & Reviews integration, helping shoppers make informed decisions while building community trust.
Abandoned cart recovery through personalized emails and notifications.
RMS integration to manage retail data across stores and online seamlessly.
Seamless Customer Service
On the service side, Salesforce Service Cloud was implemented to give support teams a 360° view of every customer. We integrated with Twilio for advanced communication flows, enabling personalized SMS and voice interactions. This meant customer service agents could resolve inquiries faster and with full visibility into orders, returns, and loyalty data.
A Future-Proof Architecture
The entire solution was designed for scalability and resilience:
Headless-friendly frontend to allow future channel expansion.
API-first architecture to integrate downstream systems with minimal friction.
Cloud-based monitoring and analytics to track performance, customer behavior, and KPIs in real time.
Together, these solutions transformed Bloomingdale’s Middle East into a world-class luxury eCommerce destination, marrying Bloomingdale’s iconic brand with the expectations of the region’s digitally savvy, luxury-loving customers.
